Briana Monroe was born in Portland, OR and grew up just outside of Sacramento, CA. She has been pursuing artistic endeavors for as long as she can remember. Growing up, she was constantly saving pieces of fabric, ribbon, paint, and other crafts and materials people threw out with the intention to someday make artistic pieces with them. Through many trial and errors, she finally discovered what she liked and what she was good at.
She found her passion for painting chairs and other furniture pieces from her first set of bedroom furniture. As a teenager, space un-permitting, she re-painted the same pieces over and over again until she found something that suited her. She drew and designed on everything from her school notebooks and dividers, to her windows, to pieces of furniture. Inspiration strikes her everywhere. She is partially a “found artist” in that she doesn’t always create from scratch, but rather picks up things thrown away to create with, or experiments with changes and improvements on something already finished.
Briana has a BA in Psychology, but never went down the Social Services path and has done a little bit of everything else instead. Finally it dawned on her to continue her creative passion that has remained with her since the beginning.
Her other interests and passions include music, acting and the theatre, civil rights, animals, film, and being active in the outdoors. She would like to own a gallery for community art and activities in the near future.
“My life has been a constant journey- I am always surprised by the unforgiving pain, overwhelming joy, and wonderful confusion I feel sometimes daily. But I thank the universe for every moment that I’ve had to make my life a little more beautiful and gain another ounce of wisdom by being on this planet. I live life by experiencing life- not reading about it, or studying, or talking about it. I am open to a new reality everyday. No matter how old you are or how smart you are, there is an opportunity to learn everyday if you are paying attention.”
